Summary

Collecting BATMAN: DARK VICTORY #0-13, this epic continues the story of THE LONG HALLOWEEN。 It is early in Batman's crimefighting career, when James Gordon, Harvey Dent, and the vigilante himself were all just beginning their roles as Gotham's protectors。

Once a town controlled by organized crime, Gotham City suddenly finds itself being run by lawless freaks, such as Poison Ivy, Mr。 Freeze, and the Joker。 Witnessing his city's dark evolution, the Dark Knight completes his transformation into the city's greatest defender。 He faces multiple threats, including the seeming return of a serial killer called Holiday。 Batman's previous investigation of Holiday's killings revealed that more than one person was responsible for the murders。 So the question remains: who is committing Holiday's crimes this time? And how many will die before Batman learns the truth?

A top notch comic, Jeph Loeb continues The Long Halloween and does a great job of using a myriad of Batman’s Rouges Gallery and to form a well crafted mystery。 As far as singularly condensed stories only Frank Miller’s work and Alan Moore’s The Killing Joke can compare to the quality of Loeb’s work。 My only complaint is how terrible Catwoman looks。 She looks like a rat。

This was a pretty fun read。 Loeb is is always entertaining。 Sale doing these characters is the pinnacle of the book, though。 His take on Joker and Two-Face are two of my all time favorite renderings of those characters。 It's so grotesque and juxtaposes well with the more realistic elements of the world。Long Halloween is one of my favorite Batman stories。 This doesn't quite live up to that, but it is still excellent in many ways。 This was a pretty fun read。 Loeb is is always entertaining。 Sale doing these characters is the pinnacle of the book, though。 His take on Joker and Two-Face are two of my all time favorite renderings of those characters。 It's so grotesque and juxtaposes well with the more realistic elements of the world。Long Halloween is one of my favorite Batman stories。 This doesn't quite live up to that, but it is still excellent in many ways。 。。。more

Finale davvero troppo sbrigativo

This is clearly the sequel to the Long Halloween comic by the same writer and artist and it shows the growing strength of Bruce Wayne into the Batman and Gothams collection of psychos and nutcases。 It also contains the creation of Robin, Batman sidekick, and the first one。This hardcover collection was in b/w and it fitted with the story and shows the great art and does enhance the darkness of Gotham that needs its Dark Knight to defend it。 Excellent reading

One of my favourite Batman TPB volumes

It follows the same formula as The Long Halloween, but better executed this time。 I liked to see Dick’s origin in present time, not as some flashback or something like that。 A great story, that guides Gotham towards and age with more freaks and less gangsters。

A fantastic follow-up to The Long Halloween, Dark Victory charts a more hopeful course for the caped crusader as opposed to the isolation Batman finds himself in at the end his quest to determine who was the Holiday killer。 Loeb and Sale refine their work in their previous outing to bring forth a story of personal growth for a man who has vastly underestimated the work he would need to perform in order to make Gotham a better place。 Though never reaching the full heights of The Long Halloween, D A fantastic follow-up to The Long Halloween, Dark Victory charts a more hopeful course for the caped crusader as opposed to the isolation Batman finds himself in at the end his quest to determine who was the Holiday killer。 Loeb and Sale refine their work in their previous outing to bring forth a story of personal growth for a man who has vastly underestimated the work he would need to perform in order to make Gotham a better place。 Though never reaching the full heights of The Long Halloween, Dark Victory is a masterwork nonetheless in focusing in on Batman, the detective and the man。 。。。more

Hmf。 Well, I actually liked this one better than The Long Halloween, but I wasn’t wild about it。 It’s overly melodramatic (although thankfully no hysterical weeping on Martha Wayne’s grave, this time) and most of the characters are exaggerated caricatures, especially the mobsters。 The art isn’t really up my alley, with hilariously distorted faces and a Batman who is often twice as wide as Bruce Wayne。 It was a decent story, but I didn’t really feel any sort of way about it when the Hangman’s ide Hmf。 Well, I actually liked this one better than The Long Halloween, but I wasn’t wild about it。 It’s overly melodramatic (although thankfully no hysterical weeping on Martha Wayne’s grave, this time) and most of the characters are exaggerated caricatures, especially the mobsters。 The art isn’t really up my alley, with hilariously distorted faces and a Batman who is often twice as wide as Bruce Wayne。 It was a decent story, but I didn’t really feel any sort of way about it when the Hangman’s identity was finally revealed - it was just an “oh, okay, sure” kind of moment。 Some of the more intriguing plot twists I thought I saw coming didn’t end up happening, but would have been more interesting, in my opinion。 Ah well! 。。。more

Really GoodI enjoyed this Batman story a lot, better than the original。 I also really liked the art。 Except for the Joker。 I don't like how he is drawn。 Doesn't even look human anymore。 But still, good story, including Robin's origin。 Recommended。 Really GoodI enjoyed this Batman story a lot, better than the original。 I also really liked the art。 Except for the Joker。 I don't like how he is drawn。 Doesn't even look human anymore。 But still, good story, including Robin's origin。 Recommended。 。。。more

A spectacular follow up to The Long Halloween, always kept you guessing and wondering。 A great stand alone mini series that definitely recommend for comic lovers but also just for regular fictionThe art was simple, subtle and gorgeous! Loved it

I found the mystery here was actually a lot more compelling than Long Halloween, (maybe because I actually didnt have this one spoiled for me), but it's less predictable and more understandable。 It also explains some of the unjustified motives from the villain of the original long halloween。 The art is still great。 Robin is also in this story, but only really in the end, so don't expect much, though he does have an arc。 If I were to choose over which was better, Dark victory or Long halloween, I I found the mystery here was actually a lot more compelling than Long Halloween, (maybe because I actually didnt have this one spoiled for me), but it's less predictable and more understandable。 It also explains some of the unjustified motives from the villain of the original long halloween。 The art is still great。 Robin is also in this story, but only really in the end, so don't expect much, though he does have an arc。 If I were to choose over which was better, Dark victory or Long halloween, I'd easily say Dark victory。 。。。more

This is yet another case of a let down sequel whose very existence can be seen as questionable。 You see Robin on the cover? Think he's the secondary protagonist of this maxi-series? You'd be dead wrong; Dick Grayson doesn't appear until about issue 9 of a 13 issue comic series! And doesn't become Robin until the final issue! The story strives to be a sequel to The Long Halloween, a story about a new Holiday-themed serial killer and a retelling of the origin story of Robin, the Boy Wonder。 Unfortu This is yet another case of a let down sequel whose very existence can be seen as questionable。 You see Robin on the cover? And doesn't become Robin until the final issue! The story strives to be a sequel to The Long Halloween, a story about a new Holiday-themed serial killer and a retelling of the origin story of Robin, the Boy Wonder。 Unfortunately, none of these stories really mesh well with one another; The new serial killer just feels derivative, the sequel elements feel unnecessary with too much padding and like I mentioned before, Robin doesn't appear in the damn book until near the end。 There was way too much story to make everything work and Loeb should've either focused on the origin of Robin or the crime drama, not both (and not bother with the lackluster whodunnit)。Its also unfortunate that the book has a bit of a "Blue Lives Matter" subtext to it; The narrative contains many instances of police solidarity with bad cops, we're supposed to sympathize with Gordon's pain of the bad cops getting murdered and there's not really anything that deep dives into systematic corruption of the police。 I also just now realized that both this and TLH fall quite short in writing female characters。 No woman really gets to have her own plot, the most they can be are supporting characters to the men or secondary villains。 Janice Porter's story here is quite disgusting and basically boils down to someone whose only importance is the sexual relationships she has with the cast。 And Batman's relationship with Catwoman here is pretty abusive and nothing about it gets resolved。 As a Bat/Cat shipper, this was one of the worst things of the story。 。。。more

This one was another awesome one!We pick with the aftermath of The Long Halloween with so many cops suddenly dying with a new killer in the loose calling himself "The Hangman" and well hanging his victims and its mostly police and Batman investigates who it could be and he goes through the entire gamut of his villains and all it points to is Two face and he has to deal with Gordon and his new squad who protects him and a new DA called Janice who has her own secrets to hide meanwhile the Falcone This one was another awesome one!We pick with the aftermath of The Long Halloween with so many cops suddenly dying with a new killer in the loose calling himself "The Hangman" and well hanging his victims and its mostly police and Batman investigates who it could be and he goes through the entire gamut of his villains and all it points to is Two face and he has to deal with Gordon and his new squad who protects him and a new DA called Janice who has her own secrets to hide meanwhile the Falcone family has a change with new heads and there is the brother Mario whose also come and the whole drama and fiasco surrounding them and how they are involved and how Sofia wants revenge and the mystery deepens until we finally find who the killer is and while its shocking, its a bit expected but the build up was nice and unfinished resolutions and the big origin and involvement of Dick Grayson aka Robin! This was a good volume and introduces such a great mystery like the last story and seeing Batman piecing it all up and trying to find who it could be is awesome, meanwhile also suffering from Catwoman problems and where she has been and taking in a ward to keep the promises to his parents and when the answers are revealed it poses various philosophical questions and this story just shows the richness of Batmans villains and the mysteries he has to solve being the worlds greatest Detective。 The art was the highlight and those dark panels and when its all revealed is quite awesome! 。。。more

Basically what I want from a Batman comic: heavy on the noir, incredibly evocative art that’s full of kinetic energy and looming shadows, pulpish writing with the dafter villains being more here as grotesques than anything else。 At heart it’s a proper detective story and about the twisted, complicated relationship between Bruce and Dick。 It’s a perfect example of what this kind of comic can do so well and I loved it
